What is a Flow Chemistry Coil Reactor Heater?

Modular coil reactor heaters can be thought of as the flow chemistry equivalent of the magnetic stirrer hotplate. With the correct coil reactor it provides precise heating over the full length of the flow reactors volume, through which your homogeneous reactants are pumped.

The Asynt HotCoil can accommodate up to 60 mL of tubing

How does a Coil Reactor Heater Work?

A flow chemistry coil reactor heater allows accurate temperature control for a range of flow chemistry reactors whether it’s a coil reactor or column reactor. A typical coil reactor is simply a length of tubing (for example PTFE, Stainless Steel or Hastelloy selected for the required temperature and pressure range) wrapped around a mandrel. The coil reactor can then be housed on the coil reactor heater to perform a flow chemistry experiment at a set temperature. The Uniqsis HotCoil can also house glass or stainless steel column reactors with the addition of an adapter for the same precise temperature control

Benefits of Asynt’s HotCoil reactor:

  • Compact design – space can often be at a premium in a lab’s fume hoods; hence we designed our reactor to be as compact as possible with up to 60 mL volume of coil fitting on a 25 x 23 cm base.
  • Multiple reactors – Compatible with the full range of Unqisis reactors, from 2.0 mL to 60 mL, it is possible to fit multiple coils on a single temperature control unit, ideal for two stage reactions or a quenching stage.
  • Easy to control – Asynt’s HotCoil features a single dial for controlling temperature and an easily read screen (which informs the user of current and set temperature). Internal temperature probes ensure accurate reaction temperatures.
  • Modular design – The HotCoil can be used as a standalone module with your own pumps or as part of a Uniqsis flow chemistry System. It can be daisy chained to increase reaction volume for scale up applications.
  • Heat Transfer – a proprietary clamping mechanism allows you to precisely adjust the radius of the clamp to ensure maximum surface area heat transfer into the flow reactor for efficient and uniformed heating
  • Wide temperature range – the HotCoil has a temperature range from ambient up to 260˚C as standard with a 300˚C option. The upper temperature limit is dependant on the coil reactor material of construction.
  • Teflon containment tray – this prevents any risk of spills onto the base of the module
