World Water Week 2024 is taking place from 25-29 August. The event is described by the organisers as:
“… the leading conference on global water issues, held every year since 1991. A non-profit event, co-created with leading organizations, World Water Week attracts a diverse mix of participants from many professional backgrounds and every corner of the world. Together we develop solutions to the world’s greatest water-related challenges.”
Sustainable lab practices are being introduced all over the world to varying degrees. Many of these changes involve gradual reduction of wasted resources (including water) and streamlining processes. However, in countries where water shortages have reached critical levels, scientists have no choice but to improve the way they work right now.
A great example of a mass change can be seen in California, USA, where just a few months ago the State Water Resources Control Board unanimously approved its first standards for turning sewage into potable water supplies delivered to homes and businesses (widely named as the “toilet to tap” process). In addition, local water supply companies face daily charges of $10,000 if they go over their stipulated supply volumes.
